The Chunk Brief
Week of August 18, 2026
The one thing this week
The format is growing. The category is shrinking. Nobody is saying so.
US plant‑based meat and seafood dollar sales fell 10% in 2025, while the wider plant‑based food market fell 2% to $7.9B. Over the same period the shreds, chunks and strips format, where Chunk is grouped, grew +8% in unit sales and +14% in the natural channel.1
Chunk is being filed under a shrinking category while sitting in a growing format. That gap is the brand's most defensible story right now, and it is not being told consistently across the press and owned surfaces reviewed in this scan.2512

Give the agency a beat, not a vibe.
The national Whole Foods rollout, Sprouts (~480 stores) and H‑E‑B are all live in market with no press behind them. The most recent substantive Chunk coverage found in this scan is July 14. The Newsroom page on chunkfoods.com has not been updated since March 7, 2025 and does not mention Whole Foods, Sprouts or H‑E‑B at all.2345
Re‑engage @farmer_nick. Highest‑value target found this week.
Reviewed Chunk at Planta, unpaid, and said so on the post:
"This was NOT a paid post btw. Chunk asked if I would go try their stuff at Planta and since I was already a fan." On the product: "the texture and flavors were super realistic... the non vegans at our dinner loved it too."6
Large creator, mainstream crossover, already a self‑declared fan, zero cost to reopen.
Fix the signup form this week. It is costing you the list.
The "sink your teeth in" form in the site footer is live and collecting. It requires First Name, Last Name, Email and Phone. A required phone field adds friction to a low‑commitment newsletter signup, and the page gives no reason for asking. It also collects ZIP, which is quietly valuable: that is store‑level targeting for the rollout, if anyone ever reads it.7
Say the clean‑label thing out loud.
64% of consumers now want plant‑based products with less processing, and 55% think plant‑based food should be considered its own category rather than only imitate meat or dairy.8 The ultra‑processed backlash is actively catching plant‑based analogues. An 8‑ingredient fermented whole cut with no gums, binders or stabilizers is the literal answer to that number. The site already contains the proof, but treats it as product copy rather than a recurring consumer story.7
Three organic mentions: two actions, one verification.

Conversation
Sentiment
Consistently positive across the retrievable posts, and consistently unprompted. The recurring praise is texture ("super realistic", "succulent, tender"). The recurring surprise is the ingredient list. The recurring skepticism is aimed at the category, never at Chunk. No negative mention surfaced on the channels this scan could reach.691012
Volume, not sentiment, is the problem. There is very little conversation to have a sentiment about.
On the radar
Watch
No Chunk press was found for Aug 1–20. The rollout is the story and it is unclaimed.12
Category‑wide, 82+ alt‑protein companies have shut down or been acquired since Sept 2024.
Expect more "plant‑based is dead" coverage. Chunk's 140% growth in 2025 is the counter‑example
and should be on the record.2
